What to write on a flower card

A few heartfelt words can make flowers feel even more personal. Find message ideas for birthdays, anniversaries, thank-yous and sympathy.

The Sweet Dream bouquet from Newlands Flower Boutique

A flower card does not need to say everything. A few sincere words, written in your own voice, are often enough to make someone feel remembered. Start with why you are sending flowers, add a personal detail if you can, and finish with your name so they know who to thank.

Birthday wishes

Choose something that sounds like you: cheerful, affectionate or a little playful. If you cannot celebrate together, let them know you are thinking of them.

  • “Happy birthday! A little colour for your day, with lots of love from me.”
  • “Wishing you a lovely birthday and a year full of good things.”
  • “Wish I could be there to celebrate. These come with a big birthday hug.”

Anniversaries and romance

A small shared memory can mean more than a grand statement. Mention something you love about them, or a moment you treasure together.

  • “Another year of us. Thank you for all the little things that make our life so lovely.”
  • “Still my favourite person. Happy anniversary, with all my love.”
  • “Just because I love you. No special occasion needed.”

A thoughtful thank-you

Be specific about what their kindness meant to you.

  • “Thank you for being there when I needed you. It meant more than you know.”
  • “For your kindness, your time and everything you did — thank you.”
  • “A little thank-you for making such a big difference.”

When someone needs comfort

Keep sympathy messages gentle and simple. You do not need to find an explanation or try to make things better. An expression of care is enough.

  • “Thinking of you and your family, with love and deepest sympathy.”
  • “Remembering [name] with affection. We are holding you in our thoughts.”
  • “Sending love at this difficult time. We are here for you.”

Before you send

Read the message once, check names and spelling, and remember to sign it. A short message leaves room for the flowers to speak, too.
